Where they stand

The 12 axes, axis by axis

  1. 01Ownership-20
    PublicPrivate

In 2022 he proposed a sovereign fund run by the development bank BNDES and a recreated industry ministry, yet also individual pension accounts invested in the private sector. The score leans modestly toward public ownership.

  2. 02Markets-35
    PlannedFree

His platform pairs a single value-added tax and tax relief for capital goods with state-led industrial policy and criticism of the central bank's rate rises. That is a developmentalist, mildly planned stance.

  3. 03Welfare-30
    SharedSelf-reliant

He proposed collective debt renegotiation for households and a levy on fortunes above R$20 million, but also moving pensions to individual accounts. The score is moderately toward shared provision.

  4. 04AuthorityNo clear record
    DemocraticStrong leader
  5. 05Security+50
    LibertyOrder

His 2026 platform targets the command chains of criminal factions and opposes body cameras for military police, which places him toward order.

  6. 06StructureNo clear record
    LocalCentral
  7. 07Morality+10
    ProgressiveTraditional

He has criticised the culture war and left-wing identity politics without staking out a detailed position on abortion or drugs, so the score stays near the centre.

  8. 08ReligionNo clear record
    SecularReligious
  9. 09TechnologyNo clear record
    EmbraceCaution
  10. 10Culture+20
    MulticulturalNational identity

He called identity politics on the international left misguided in 2024, which scores slightly toward national identity. The record is thin.

  11. 11TradeNo clear record

  12. 12Foreign policyNo clear record

6 axes have no clear record: no documented statement, vote or platform places Ciro Gomes there, so matching leaves them out.

Who is Ciro Gomes?

Ciro Ferreira Gomes, born in Pindamonhangaba in 1957 and raised in Sobral, Ceará, began in the state assembly in 1983. He was mayor of Fortaleza, governor of Ceará from 1991, finance minister under Itamar Franco in 1994 and national integration minister in Lula's first government. Record

Ciro Gomes governed Ceará in the early 1990s, took part in the Real Plan as finance minister in 1994 and sat in Lula's first cabinet from 2003. His later career has been defined by four presidential defeats, a rupture with the PT and a move across parties from the PDT back to the PSDB. In 2026 his campaign for governor drew support from the PL's state caucus while his brother Cid Gomes backed the PT incumbent.

Supporters credit his record as governor and finance minister and his command of economic detail. Poder360 wrote after the vote that the defeat widens his political wear, and critics point to his shifting party ties and alliances.
