What this is

12axes-test.com runs the 12 Axes Political Test. Instead of placing you on one left to right line or a two-axis compass, it scores your views on 12 separate axes in four families: economy, state, society and world. Your result shows each score, then the ideology, historical figure and country closest to you, and the ideology furthest away.

How it was built

  • A statement bank of 162. Plain statements, each about one idea, drawing on published frameworks such as the Pew political typology and Moral Foundations research. Every axis has statements keyed in both directions, so agreeing with everything does not push you to one side.
  • An explainer for every statement. Neutral background plus the main reason people agree and the main reason they disagree. Opening it never changes your score.
  • Profiles from the public record. Ideologies are placed at the mainstream position of each tradition. Historical figures are scored from their own writings, speeches and actions. Country profiles are built from published indicators of laws, institutions and public spending. Current politicians are not shown until each profile has been checked by hand.
  • Open scoring. The formulas for scores and matches are published on the methodology page.

Independence

12axes-test.com is an independent test with its own questions, scoring and profiles. It is not affiliated with any other site or project using the 12 axes name.

The site is not tied to any party, campaign, government or advocacy group, and it does not endorse any party, ideology or person. A match is a similarity on 12 axes, never a recommendation.

Neutrality

No position on any axis is scored as better than another. Statements avoid party names, politicians and loaded terms, and profiles describe each tradition the way its own supporters would recognise, with the main criticisms from more than one side.
